Mr. John R. Calvert
Posthumous Induction
John R. Calvert was born in Evergreen Park, IL. He attended St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic School in his youth, and was a 1972 graduate of Elkhart Central High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University.
Mr. Calvert worked in sales for most of his career, first with Fastec Industrial Corp. and later with American Bolt and Screw in Elkhart. He was very active in the Elkhart community. He was an avid fund-raiser for the Lerner Theatre, and he enjoyed ushering and volunteering there. He also enjoyed fishing, collecting owls, landscaping, working on his immaculately kept yard, and mentoring the students at Pinewood and Hawthorne elementary schools.
Mr. Calvert was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Toward the end of his life, he had an urgency for his family and friends to have a relationship with the risen Christ.
Mr. Calvert included Africa University in his estate plans. The university will receive funds for an annual scholarship in perpetuity.
